Chandra means 'moon'
Bhedana means 'to Pierce or to pass through'
This Pranayam is also called 'Moon Breathing'
Linked to the moon aspect,the right nostril represents the sun whereas the left nostrils represents the moon. In this Chandra bhedana pranayama We use the left nostril,the left nostril represents the ida Nadi (lunar energy). So this breathing activates ida Nadi balancing our lunar energy.
Whereas the right nostril represents the Pingala nadi (heating energy). Chandra bhedana pranayama involves breathing only through the left nostril, activating the Ida Nadi.
Chandra bhedana pranayama : How do we practice it
1. Choose a place which is quite and peaceful.
2. Make yourself comfortable,close your eyes slowly.
3. Now,block your right nostril using your thumb and now slowly inhale from your left nostril, a long deep breath in and exhale from your left nostril, calming yourself completely.
4. Again take a long deep breath through the left nostril,a long exhalation out of the left nostril.
Remember to keep your thumb on the right nostril, making it completely blocked,so that no air passes through it .
5. Now slowly place your plams on your knees and open your eyes.
